Phuket International Airport, the main gateway to Thailand’s largest island, was officially inaugurated in October 1988, although it had already been serving the island for several decades before that date. Built to meet the growing demand for tourism, the airport quickly became one of the most important entry points to southern Thailand. Since its inception, it has played a vital role in connecting travelers to Phuket and its surrounding destinations, expanding over the years to accommodate increasing international and domestic traffic. Multiple expansions and renovations have modernized its facilities and led to the development of several terminals, each designed to efficiently handle different types of flights and passenger needs. This modern infrastructure reflects Phuket’s status as a premier tropical destination and a key hub in the region.

Terminal X
Terminal X at Phuket International Airport was inaugurated on February 24, 2014, and was built to relieve overcrowding in the main terminals during peak travel seasons. Its primary function is to handle charter flights, especially those serving seasonal and high-volume tourist routes, allowing the main terminals to focus on regular scheduled flights. Terminal X is not physically connected to Terminals 1 and 2, and is only used when the airport operates at maximum capacity, mainly during busy holiday periods or when there is a surge in charter flights. The terminal is modern, equipped with essential passenger facilities, and is designed to ensure a smooth experience for charter travelers.
